First Time / Transfer Students
You may file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at any time after January 1 and are encouraged to complete the application by February 1. If your tax information is not available, you may file using estimated income information. You do not need to be accepted at Binghamton University to file your FAFSA using Binghamton as an intended school.
The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for federal student and parent loans, institutional scholarships, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Supplemental Educational Grants or Federal Work Study.
If you are a New York State resident, you may also apply for support through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). After you file your FASFA, you will receive a preprinted Express TAP application. New students (freshmen, new graduate students) and those students who did not apply for TAP previously will need to complete an Express TAP application.
What if Binghamton University is not listed on my Student Aid Report (SAR)?
If you have fewer then 6 schools listed, add BU to your SAR and mail it back to CPS. If you already have 6 schools listed, you must replace the schools listed on your SAR with Binghamton University's school code (002836) and mail it back to CPS. They will send an electronic copy of your SAR to Binghamton and a paper copy of your updated SAR to you. Note that the school codes originally on your SAR are replaced by Binghamton's school code. The original schools will not receive any more information about you if you make changes to your application information.
You may also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-433-3243/TTY:800/730-8913 or 319/337-5665 to make changes using your Data Release Number (DRN), which is listed on your SAR.
You may also make corrections online through the FAFSA website. You will need your PIN for this option.
