Graduate Students

Financial aid awards, which include federal loans and TAP awards for New York State residents, are also made to graduate students on the basis of the FAFSA. You can file your FAFSA online and are encouraged to file by February 1 for the fall or November 15 for the spring. You are strongly encouraged to file early, as available funding is limited. If you do not receive your financial aid before the beginning of the semester, you still must pay your bill in full. Please contact Student Accounts at 607-777-2702 for additional information.

Tuition Scholarships: Graduate students may apply for graduate assistantships or fellowships through their respective academic departments. In most cases, the assistantship also includes a tuition scholarship, which is paid by the department for a specific number of credit hours.

Since the tuition scholarship is a financial resource, it must be included in the financial aid package and may affect the amount of Federal Direct Loan for which the student is eligible. The Financial Aid Services Office will adjust your aid package accordingly.

We will note an estimated tuition scholarship amount for returning graduate students who received tuition scholarships in the previous year. All tuition scholarships noted on the award offer denote the value of full-time enrollment (at least 12 credits), even if the student is enrolled for fewer than 12 credits but certified by the Graduate School as full time.
