Summer Aid

Limited financial aid sources may be available for matriculated students attending summer school. Students enrolled for at least six credit hours may be eligible for Federal Direct Student Loans, Federal Parent Loans and New York State TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) grants.

Please note: Receiving financial aid for summer may reduce the amount of aid you receive for the fall and spring terms when your expenses might be higher. Please consider this before you request aid for summer classes.

Students must meet the following requirements for consideration of summer aid:

  • arrow_right.gifComplete the 2008-09 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web and have the information received by Binghamton. You must list Binghamton’s Federal School Code on the FAFSA (002836).

  • arrow_right.gifSubmit a TAP application if required.

  • arrow_right.gifComplete and submit the Summer 2008 Financial Aid Application to the Financial Aid Services Office.

  • arrow_right.gifEnroll and remain enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits in Binghamton's summer session. (Some graduate students may qualify if registered for 5 credits or if certified as full time by their department).

  • arrow_right.gifBe a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.

How does TAP work during the summer?

Students must have earned at least 24 credits, applicable to your degree, in the prior two semesters. If you are eligible, you can receive up to 8 semesters of TAP payments as an undergraduate. EOP students are eligible to receive 10 semesters of TAP payments. The summer term counts as .5 or 1 semester depending on the number of credits taken. Please note: TAP cannot be used as a credit toward your summer bill.

For more information about your eligibility for summer aid, you can visit our Office or speak to your Financial Aid Counselor. Their schedules are available online.
