How do I Obtain Copies of my Tax Returns?
If you have received a notice from our office requesting that you provide copies of your (or your parents) Federal Income Tax Return (or information specifically from that return) AND you do not have copies in your records, you will need to contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and request copies be sent to you. Remember, we must have a copy of the actual form you filed with the IRS, not just a working copy from your records. You should not submit these records unless we have contacted you and specifically requested them.
You must call the IRS at (800) 829-3676 to request FORM 4506 be mailed to you, or you can download the form. Once you have completed Form 4506 you need to return it to the IRS in order to request copies of your tax return. (There is a small fee involved.) You should allow 6-8 weeks for a copy of your return to reach you. Once you receive it, you should photocopy it and send it to us.
