Federal Work Study
Federal Work Study is a federally-funded program. Students employed in FWS jobs receive wages that are subsidized by federal government funds
Eligibility
Eligibility is determined by Binghamton University's Office of Financial Aid Services before a student may participate in the program. Eligibility for FWS is based on financial need through the filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and is granted to as part of a student's financial aid package
FWS employment is available to eligible, full-time students as an opportunity to earn money to help defray college expenses. Job opportunities for BU students are available on and off campus. FWS eligibility increases the likelihood of getting hired by an on-campus employer, but does NOT guarantee a job. Jobs are limited and fill quickly. Therefore, we highly recommend students make contact with an employer as soon as possible once an opportunity is identified.
Students employed at on-campus FWS jobs generally work 6-10 hours per week, and earn between minimum wage and $15.76 per hour.

Employer Verification Upon Hire
Regardless of whether you will be working a Federal Work Study job or any other on campus job, federal law requires that employers verify a person's identity and their eligibility for employment. Once you are hired, go to the Payroll Distribution Center (University Union East, Room 105) to complete the Employment Verification Form (I-9 Form).
