How to Apply
Agneshwar Scholarship Fund This scholarship is an an annual award given to a Binghamton University undergraduate student who is a U.S. citizen who demonstrates need and a high potential for success. First preference is given to Broome County residents, with second preference to a student from New York State. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Alumni Association Scholarship Established in 1989 by the Alumni Association in honor of the more than 800 Life Members of the Association. These scholarships are awarded to financially deserving students in good academic standing, who have demonstrated commitment to the University, particularly in the area of student life, by involvement in service to the University. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Separate Application is available in the Alumni Office beginning February 27th. Application deadline is the end of March. Review and selection of recipient is done by committee.
Anne & Charles Rosenthal Minority Scholarship The scholarship, now endowed by the Rosenthals, is awarded to full-time undergraduates with high academic achievement and proven financial need. First preference is given to African-American students. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Arnold G. and Lenora Meyer Scholarship Fund Need-based scholarship for students in Art, Music, Nursing, Engineering, or Science. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Assael Scholarship The "Jacob and Pearl Assael Scholarship" is awarded to a student from Long Island who has demonstrated financial need as well as demonstrated academic merit (gpa >= 3.0). Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by Financial Aid Services and is awarded during the spring for the following academic year.
Baldwin Scholarship for Wrestling The "Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr. Memorial Scholarship" for wrestling is awarded to students with demonstrated financial need who participate on the BU wrestling team. Recipients must also have an academic record of merit with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have demonstrated commitment to community service or have been involved with activities for the betterment of society. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected by the wrestling coach based on contributions made to their sport. Recipients are chosen in the Spring for the following academic year.
Barnes & Noble Employee Scholarship Awarded annually to a student employed by the University Barnes and Noble Bookstore. No formal application required. Selection of recipients done by committee of the bookstore management staff. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Barnes & Noble Scholarship: University Wide Created in 2007, these funds were donated by Barnes & Noble Booksellers to help students finance higher education. Selection is made by committee. No application is required.
Binghamton University Scholarship Funded by an anonymous alumnus, these scholarships are awarded to outstanding students (GPA 3.5) with proven financial need who are also employed in an effort to meet their educational expenses. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by Financial Aid Services and awarded during the spring for following academic year.
Bolotsky EOP Scholarship Awarded annually to an EOP student who meets the following criteria: 1st scholarship: a sophomore, junior, or senior EOP student with a gpa of 3.0 or above who demonstrates academic promise and financial need. 2nd scholarship: a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior EOP student (with first preference given to a graduate of the Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day High School) who has a BU gpa of 3.0 or above (excepting freshman candidates) who demonstrates academic promise and financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Student should also contact the BU Educational Opportunity Program for information on how and when to apply for this scholarship.
Catherine Beardsley Scholarship Established in 1990 in memory of Catherine Beardsley, a longtime employee in the Registrar's Office, who was committed to student services, as reflected in her friendliness, accessibility, and efficiency in dealing with students and staff. The scholarship is awarded to acknowledge the achievements of an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) junior or senior student in good academic standing, with first preference given to Broome County residents. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application required. Selection done by committee during the Spring for the following academic year.
Charles Drew Minority Pre-Health Society Scholarship Awarded to underrepresented ethnic groups in their pursuit of careers in the science and health fields. Recipients must have a minimum science grade point average of 2.8 and a minimum overall grade point average of 3.2. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior with demonstrated financial need and an interest in pre-health should be expressed. Preference will be given to Charles Drew members and minority students; however, other qualified applicants will be considered. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Applications are available from Charles Drew members. Review of applications and selection done by committee with preference given to Charles Drew members. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Child of an Employee of the BU Physical Plant Scholarship Fund Established in 1990, this scholarship is awarded to children of Physical Facilities permanent appointment employees. Students must be enrolled full-time in either an undergraduate or graduate degree program and must demonstrate financial need as defined by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid.. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. A mailing is sent to all employees of the Physical Plant specifying application criteria. Review and selection is done by committee. Recipient is chosen in the spring semester for the following academic year.
Class of 1988 Scholarship Established with student donations as part of the 1988 Senior Class Gift. Crane Fund for Widows and Orphan Children Scholarship Established by The Crane Fund for Widows and Orphan Children. The scholarship is awarded to widows and orphaned children who are financially unable to provide for their education. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by the Financial Aid Services Office and is awarded during the spring for following academic year.
Darwin R. Wales Scholarship Established in 2005 by The Roger L. Kresge Foundation, this scholarship will be awarded annually to a matriculated student who graduated from a Broome County high school, and who demonstrates financial need and academic merit. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Dr. Israel J. Rosefsky Language and Culture Scholarship Awarded to student studying abroad in a language immersion program or international relations, and must plan to utilize language of foreign country upon return to U.S. Application is available in the Office of International Programs. Application deadlines are March 15 for fall/spring study abroad and October 15 for spring study abroad. Review of applications and selection done by a committee.
Dr. Lawrence N. and Lana K. '72 Rouff Scholarship Established in 1992, this scholarship is awarded to junior and senior students at with financial need, having at least a 2.7 grade point average and who have graduated from a Broome County high school. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Dr. Marie Morisawa Memorial Scholarship Established in memory of Professor Marie Morisawa to perpetuate her work. The scholarship is given to a full-time, female graduate student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. First preference will be given to a geomorphology student, with a geology student as second preference. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No formal application is required. Selection of recipient done by committee in the Geology Department during the Spring semester for the following academic year.
Edith M Briloff Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded annually to Binghamton University students who have demonstrated academic excellence (gpa >= 3.5). Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by Financial Aid Services and is awarded during the spring for the following academic year.
Edwin E. Hatch Foundation Scholarship Fund Awarded to an incoming freshman who will have the opportunity to retain this scholarship for up to four years of undergraduate study, as long as financial need and merit criteria continue to be met. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Elizabeth A. Knapp Scholarship for Adult Women Established in 1985 to honor Elizabeth Knapp's 19 years of service to the University. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage women who have delayed their formal education to pursue their personal goals through higher education. The scholarship is awarded to women age 25 and older. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship Awarded to undergraduate underrepresented populations (African American, Latino, Native American, or Alaskan American) who are NY residents enrolled in a degree program and have demonstrated high academic achievement (3.5 gpa +). Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Esther Couper Scholarship Established in 1998 by Esther Couper, a long time supporter and friend of Binghamton University. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate with emphasis on recruitment of excellent students to the University. Selected by the Financial Aid Services Office in conjunction with the Binghamton University Admissions Office. No formal application or inquiry is needed to be considered. Awarded during the spring semester for the following academic year.
Eugene D. Flood Scholarship Established in 1998 by friends and colleagues in honor of Eugene (Gene)D. Flood ('57)'s retirement after 34 years of service to Harpur College. The scholarship is awarded to a Binghamton University student with financial need. First preference is given to a Broome County resident; the next preference is to an entering Freshman. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Evelio Figueroa Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship Awarded to a full-time, matriculated student with academic merit, financial need who is seeking to study abroad and has a commitment to cultural understanding and community. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Application for this scholarship is available in the Office of International Programs. The application deadline for fall study abroad is April 1st. Review of application and selection is done by committee. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Faculty-Student Scholarship Established in 1988 through a gift from the dissolution of the Auxiliary Campus Enterprise Corporation. The selection is based both on merit and review of the student's participation and commitment to the University's community service activities. The student is required to work 10 hours per week at a specific on-campus site to fulfill scholarship requirement. Harpur Forum Scholarship Awarded to students who reflect the intellectual interest and commitment for which the Harpur Forum is known, with first preference given to students from the Southern Tier. Henry & Henrietta Quade Scholarship Established in 1996 to benefit full-time, high quality Binghamton University students. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Homecoming Exemplary Student Award Candidates must be full-time and have completed 60 hours with at least 30 hours completed at Binghamton University. Applicants must have strong academic achievement, University involvement and good verbal and written communication skills. Applications are available In the Alumni Office April first. Application deadline is generally the first week in May. Review and selection done by a committee. Recipients are chosen during Homecoming for a spring scholarship award.
Jack Kaminsky Memorial Scholarship Established in 2000 to be awarded to a freshman with good academic standing with commitment to the University Community. Preference for a student with demonstrated need. Renewable contingent upon student maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Joel & Heidi Thirer Athletic Scholarship Awarded annually to a student who is an intercollegiate varsity athlete in good academic standing. Recipient is selected annually by the Athletic Department. No application is required.
Joseph J. Robilotto Men's Basketball Scholarship Endowment Established by a former basketball player and member of the class of 1995, this scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the men's varsity basketball team. Selection of applicant is done by the Department of Athletics in May. No formal application or inquiry required. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Laco Fisher Horizons Scholarship Awarded to a sophomore with academic merit, proven financial need, and a commitment to music or athletics. The scholarship will alternate every three years between a music student and an athlete. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Application is available in the Office of the Director of undergraduate studies in the Music Department or with the Athletic department, dependent on the scholarship rotation agreement. The application deadline varies but is generally mid-March. Review of application and selection done by committee. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Lawrence & Laura Clayton Scholarship The "Lawrence G. & Laura S. Clayton Scholarship" is awarded to a full-time matriculated undergraduate student who demonstrates both academic merit (gpa >= 3.0) and proven financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by the Financial Aid Services Office and is awarded during the spring for following academic year.

'81 Schorr Transfer Scholarship Established in 1999, the scholarship is awarded annually to a Broome Community College transfer student who has demonstrated exceptional need and has attained a high academic average. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Lawrence J. and Jennifer Brink Schorr Men's Tennis Scholarship Established in 2003 by Lawrence J. '75, '77 and Jennifer Brink Schorr '81. Awarded annually to a member of the men's varsity tennis team who has a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater or has SAT's above 1200 and lives outside of NY State. If no student-athlete fits the above noted criteria then it will be awarded to an eligible member of the men's tennis team in good academic standing. Selection of applicant is done by the Department of Athletics in May. No formal application or inquiry required. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Leona S. Hine Scholarship Fund Preference given to a freshman with a minimum gpa of 3.0 with a demonstrated Parental Adjusted Gross Income of $40,000 to $60,000 per year with limited assets. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Leopold Eckler Scholarship Established under the Will of Leopold Eckler, a distinguished Binghamton citizen, businessman and philanthropist. These scholarships are awarded to financially needy students in good academic standing, with preference given to Broome County residents. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Lois B. DeFleur Scholarship for Excellence in Leadership Awarded to a student in good academic standing with proven financial need, who has demonstrated strong leadership abilities for the advancement and enhancement of Binghamton University. These abilities may be demonstrated by having participated in a leadership capacity in student activities on campus, or, in the event the proposed recipient is an incoming freshman to the University, by having held leadership positions in appropriate activities while in high school. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Applications are available at the following link Lois B. Louis M. Azzara Scholarship Awarded to a member of the women's varsity tennis team at Binghamton University who is considered to be the 'most improved player'. No application necessary. Selection is made by the Binghamton University Athletic Director and staff on a yearly basis.
Mark A. Zurack Scholarship Established in 1997 by alumnus Mark A. Zurack '78, this scholarship is given annually to a student with proven financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Martin F. Triano ('76) Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a Binghamton University student from California with merit and need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Master's Swim Team Scholarship Awarded to a student who participates in intercollegiate athletics on either the Men's or Women's swimming and diving teams, who meets all the rules and regulations of NCAA Recipient is selected annually by the Athletic Department, no application necessary.
Maurice Bishop Memorial Scholarship Established in 2001, by the Caribbean Student Association of Binghamton University to honor the philosophy, devotion to human rights, and perseverance of Maurice Bishop. Preference is given to a student of Caribbean descent. Application is available in the Caribbean Student Association in the New University Union. Check with Caribbean Student Association for application deadline. Review of application and selection is done by a committee. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Michael V. Boyd '79, '87 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a full-time junior or senior who does volunteer work and who also demonstrates proven financial need and academic merit. Preference is given to a student from African/Latino descent. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with BU Financial Aid Services. Applications available at the following link Michael V. Boyd '79, '87 Memorial Scholarship Application or in both the EOP Office and Financial Aid Services. The application deadline is March 30, 2007. An in-depth essay is required, with specific guidelines and topics. Selection is made by committee. Recipients are chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Minority Scholarship Fund Provides financial assistance to attract and retain undergraduate students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, who have proven financial need, and who are from under-represented populations (African American, Asian-American, Latino-American, or Native American). Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Neil and Emily Rose Scholarship Awarded to an Intercollegiate Student Athlete with first preference given to eligible members of the men's basketball or golf teams. Selection of applicant is done by the Department of Athletics in May. No formal application or inquiry required. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Nesar Ahmad Memorial Scholarship Fund This scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of Nesar Ahmad, to fund a Binghamton University PhD student who uses world-system analysis in their study of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. A preference will be given to students at the Fernand Braudel Center. Recipients must have a gpa of 3.0 or higher. Inquiries should be directed to the Fernand Braudel Center.
Niermeyer Foundation Scholarship Established in 1995, provides assistance to full-time, undergraduate African-American and Asian-American students who are in good academic standing with proven financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
O'Connor Scholarship Established by the late Judge and Mrs. O'Connor of Hobart, NY. First preference is given to financially needy students from Delaware County, NY with any balance to be used for students from the contiguously surrounding counties. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Patricia A. Bartel Scholarship Established in 2000 by Mr. Richard C. Bartel for a freshman with promise and academic achievement. The student will retain the scholarship for four years as long as he/she continues to meet all criteria. Preference for a non-smoker. Student should have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by Financial Aid Services and is awarded during the spring for following academic year.
Paula S. Kramer '79 Scholarship Established by Lee Perlman '80 and Linda Riefberg '81. This scholarship aids a full-time student who has experienced an extraordinary personal hardship such as the recent loss of a parent, or who is from a single parent family for whom a scholarship could make a difference in their staying in school. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Pauline R. Parker Trust Scholarship Fund Awarded to a full-time Broome County High School graduate with academic merit and financial need. Preference given to a student under the age of 25 years. Amount of award not to exceed $2500 per student. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Peter Zayac, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Established in 1993 by family and friends to honor the memory of Peter P. Zayac, Jr. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior, and is based upon academic merit with preference given to students with financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application is required. Recipients are selected in the Spring for the following academic year.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Awarded only to a transfer student who is a current member of Phi Theta Kappa. This scholarship may be renewable for the student's senior year. This scholarship is awarded during the Undergraduate Admissions process to Binghamton University, but an application must be completed to be considered. Phyllis J. & Morris Cohen Scholarship Awarded to a student who lives outside commuting distance from Binghamton University, and who demonstrates financial need. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. No other formal application or inquiry required. Selection is made by the Financial Aid Services Office and is awarded during the spring for following academic year.
Professor Janet Brady Memorial Scholarship Endowed by colleagues, friends, and family, this scholarship honors the many outstanding contributions to the Music Dept made by Janet Ruth Brady, Professor of Violin at Binghamton University 1981-2000. The recipient must be involved actively in the Orchestral String program during the entire academic year he/she receives the Brady Scholarship. Active involvement includes orchestral participation, studio lessons, and chamber music. The recipient is expected to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or greater and to maintain a standard of musical and personal excellence which will serve as an inspiration and model for his/her fellow students. Application is available in the Office of the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Music Department. The application deadline varies but is generally mid-March. Robert Mancini ('80) Scholarship for Community Service The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students to develop a sense of responsibility towards those in society who are less fortunate and to perpetuate this philosophy throughout life. The scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to helping the underprivileged or indigent, preferably in Binghamton and surrounding communities, particularly those who are homeless or suffer from hunger or lack of medical care or who have other symptoms of poverty. Preference will be given to graduates of Horace Greely High School in Chappaqua, NY and is open to applicants pursuing any major within Binghamton University. Samuel Reiser Scholarship Endowment Established by actor Paul Reiser ('77), this scholarship is awarded to a full-time Department of Music sophomore, junior or senior based upon academic merit and proven financial need. First preference is given to a student majoring in piano/composition. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Sodexho-Marriott Scholarship Provides an award to students of Binghamton University who are employed by Sodexho-Marriott Corporation and demonstrate financial need. One of the recipients must be employed in the Retail Division and one must be employed in the Dining Hall Division on campus. Student must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the BU Financial Aid Services Office. Applications are available through the dining services manager. The application deadline is March 15th. Recipients will be chosen in the spring for the following academic year.
Stephen P. Erber Scholarship Established by wrestling alumni in honor of the founder and long-time coach of the Binghamton Wrestling program. This scholarship is awarded to a student involved in an intramural sport. Selection of applicant is done by the Department of Athletics in May. No formal application or inquiry required. Swimming and Diving Alumni Scholarship The scholarship will be awarded annually to one member each of the Men's Swimming and Diving Team and the Women's Swimming and Diving Team, who are in good academic standing. Terence 'Tex' Haran Memorial TAU Scholarship Awarded to a full-time male student in his junior or senior year. Preference will be given to individuals who demonstrate a commitment to community service and involvement in one or more of the following: social activities, student life, clubs, sports teams, or academic clubs. Preference will be given to well-rounded students who demonstrate a high level of motivation and perseverance as they work toward obtaining significant personal, community, and educational goals.
